Abstract

The type of clever fox in the folktale of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine has two main characters including dodgy character and his enemy character. The character of clever fox uses its ruse to play pranks or helps other characters. Enemy character is the object of craftiness. In addition, the appeared victim characters as the little, weak and endured ones suffer from harsh treatment of his opponents. The characters mostly mentioned to those whose have possession of bravery but without clever mind or those are small and good-natured. In the fighting, the clever characters – little ones will gain overwhelming dominance. This kind of story ending gives prominence to reasoning; shows the sympathy of broad mass of people with the voiceless individuals; and presents the dream of an equal and democratic society. The character system in the folktale of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine performs not only the typical features of the story type but also particular features of each nation and people as well.
