GREETINGS - A LOOK THROUGH LANGUAGE – CULTURE IN ENGLISH AND IN CHINESE

Abstract

Greeting is one of the best ways to make the first impression in communication. However, “A different language is a different vision of life.”(Federico Fellini, Italian film director). In addition, different culture also makes different ways in greetings. It is expressed very clearly in The West and East culture. In this paper, we would like to focus on the ways of greetings and point out the differences in manners of greetings of the English and Chinese community. Accordingly, learners can decide the most appropriate behaviors in specific situations in communication with native speakers.
