Abstract

In the present paper, a study on modifying rice husk ash by citric acid and itsapplication to treatment of aricultural waste water was demonstrated. Rice husk ashafter removing SiO2 was modified by 0.5 M citric acid. Modified rice husk ash withabout 0.1 μm particle size exhibited high specific surface area of 72.7 m2/g. Comparedto the rice husk ash without treament, methylene blue adsorption performanceincreased by up to 2.02 times. High adsorption activity of absorpbent shoud becontributed to functional groups on the surface. Materials used for adsorption ofmethylene blue concentration of 100 mg/L in the aquatic environment. For initialmethylene blue concentration of 100 mg/L capacity and yield adsorption 95.59 mg/gand 95.59%, respectively. Analysis of the effluent quality standards such as DO,COD, BOD5, total nitrogen, total phosphorus before and after treatment to evaluatethe absorption capacity of the material was addressed. The results showed that thelevels of pollutants in wastewater agriculture dropped significantly. Treatmentefficiency of COD, BOD5, total nitrogen, total phosphorus reached 87.50%; 88.36%;72.58% and 87.22%, respectively. The water quality parameters met standardrequirements when discharged into the environment.

Keywords: rice husk ash, adsorption of blue methylene, agricultural waste water.
