RESEARCH TO DETERMINE CONTENT OF CYANIDE IN CASSAVA AND BAMBOO SHOOT BY DIFFERENTIAL PULSE POLAROGRAPHY METHOD

Abstract

    The electrolyte solutions, sweep rates, purges time, etc...were researched on thedetermination of cyanide. Distillation time of 90 minutes was recommended to use;some interferences of other anions including sulphide and sulphite were alsoinvestigated. Cyanide content ion of cassava and bamboo shoot has been determinedby differential pulse polarography method using the quantitative technique ofstandard addition. The ranges of cyanide concentration in bamboo shoot were within0.00045 -0.075 mg/g and from limit of detection to 1.7902 mg/g for cassava. Accuracywas assessed by analyzing artificial sample and the repeatability (expressed as therelative standard deviation in percentage) was 3%. Sensitivity of analysis wasassessed by limit of detection (LOD = 0.017 mg/l) and limit of quantification (LOQ =0.057mg/l).Keywords: Cyanide, cassava, bamboo, differential pulse polarography
