DEGRADATION OF TEXTILE WASTEWATER BY PERSULFATE ACTIVAED BY ZERO-VALENT IRON

Abstract

   The degradation of methyl orange dye by persulfate (S2O82-) activated with zerovalentiron (ZVI) was studied. The parameters examined were pH, reaction time,initial concentrations of ZVI and persulfate. The methyl orange degradation washigher under acidic condition (pH=3.0) in the presence 0.5g.L-1 of ZVI and 3.5 mM ofpersulfate. The experiment results showed that ZVI/persulfate was effective in theCOD removal from textile wastewater. The maximum COD removal efficiency wasachieved 70.2% after 50 min of reaction time.
