Abstract

Graphene oxide (GO) and graphene were successfully synthesized by oxidation of naturalgraphite, exfoliated and followed bythermal reduction. The products were characterized byBET and FITR. The adsorption equilibrium and kinetics of dye Reactive Red 195 (RR195) onthe graphene oxide and graphene were then examined at 30 oC and pH of 5.5. Adsorptionisotherm of the RR195 on the graphene oxide and graphene were determined and correlatedwith common isotherm equations. The equilibrium data for RR195 adsorption well fit to theLangmuir model, with maximum RR195 adsorption capacities of graphene and grapheneoxide were 250 mg/g; 212.7mg/g and 58.8 mg/g, respectively. Two simplified kinetic modelsincluding pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order equation were used to investigate theadsorption processes. The adsorption of RR195 on graphene oxide and graphene obeysdescribed by the pseudo-second-order equation.
