Abstract

This paper presents the initial results on applying the Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) of seven key components, including livelihoods, socio-demographics, social networks, food, access to facilities, health and climate variability in Thach Hai, Thach Tri and Thach Van coastal communes in Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province. The results show that the impact of climate change on livelihoods is obviously but local resources seem to have not kept pace with the socio-economic development. The LVI assessment approach can be used not only to monitor the livelihood vulnerability in communal area, which but also can be applied to other areas such as the district, provincial… levels. It helps the regulators and policymakers to have an intuitive view and propose the development of sustainable livelihood policies.
