Abstract

The Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) is a breakthrough in international negotiations, facilitating the creation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. The Paris Agreement is a historic agreement, binding the responsibility of all parties in response to climate change, mainly through the implementation of NDC. Viet Nam submitted its NDC in 2015 and ratified the Paris Agreement in 2016. Viet Nam’s NDC includes two components: Greenhouse gas emission mitigation and climate change adaptation. In the climate change adaptation component, Viet Nam is committed to continuetaking actions to improve the adaptive and resilience capacity of communities and ecosystems to reduce vulnerability and climate risks, and integrating adaptation actions into socio-economic development plans. This paper analyzes and assesses the role of the Viet Nam’s NAP in implementing the adaptation component in the NDC and contributions of NAP to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
