CO-BENEFITS OF CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION IN SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT IN VIETNAM: THEORY, ASSESSMENT METHODS AND APPLICATION
Abstract
This study focused on clarifying the theory of co-benefits as well as identifying and developing appropriate methods to assess the co-benefits of greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation measures in the solid waste sector. Subsequently, the study could contribute references for policies on GHG emissions reduction and strengthen solutions to reduce GHG emissions in low carbon solid waste management in Viet Nam. Accordingly, three main contents were conducted including: (1) To provide an overview of co-benefits of GHG emission reduction activities in general and in solid waste sector in particular; (2) To introduce to the assessment of co-benefits of climate change mitigation in solid waste management; (3) To present guidance on applying adequate methods to assess co-benefits of solid waste sector in Viet Nam. The results can create a premise for further research on and application of co-benefit assessment in response to climate change in Viet Nam.
