CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT ASSESSMENT ON SEDIMENT FLOW AND CONCENTRATION FOR THE RED RIVER - THAI BINH RIVER BASIN
Abstract
The Red River Delta is the receiving body of flow and sediments from the river system of the Red River - Thai Binh River system. Under the impacts of climate change, changes in rainfall patterns will lead to changes in the flow and sediment concentration in rivers. In this article, the authors focus on researching and assessing the impacts of climate change on the discharge and sedimentation in the Red River - Thai Binh River basin through a series of rainfall data observed at the rain gauge stations and the meteorological stations used as inputs to the SWAT model. Flow discharge and sediment concentration in the river are calculated for 06 climate change scenarios. The research results show that the rainfall increases by 20.9% (by 2100), making the annual average discharge at the hydrological stations increase by 25 - 27%; average concentration of sediment increases by 21 - 47%.
