Compliance with safety procedures for cesarean section at some hospital in 2020

Abstract

Objectives: Describe the compliance with safe cesarean section procedures and influencing factors of the compliance in Thu Duc District Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City in 2020.

Methodology: Cross-sectional study design, quantitative and qualitative data were collected. Direct observation of practicing safe surgical procedures during cesarean sections at the Department of Anesthesia and Resuscitation, Thu Duc District hospital was conducted. Interviews with hospital staff were conducted using semi-structured interview guides. The study was conducted from April to October 2020. The study sample size was 142 caesarean sections (C-sections).

Results: The compliance rate of safe cesarean section procedure at each stage of surgery, was rather high: 95.8% at pre-operative stage, 81.7% surgical stage, and postoperative stage was 92.2%. The compliance rate for safe cesarean section procedure was 81.7%. Some surgical safety actions are not performed in the emergency cases such as fetal distress.

Recommendations: It is necessary to have specifc guidance on the safety procedures for each level of emergency of C-section in the hospital.
