Safety of intravenous injection practices among clinical nurses at Thap Muoi district general hospital in 2021

Abstract

Safety injection practies can contribute to reduce the risk of harming the patient or other healthcare workers and prevent the spread of bloodborne pathogens like HBV, HCV.

Objectives: This cross sectional study aimed to describe the proportion of safety intravenous injection and its associated factors among clinial nurses, was conducted at Thap Muoi district general hospital in 2021.

Methods: The study design using the quantitative method that surveyed on a total of 62 nurses and 186 observed-injections. These study tools including the self-administered questionnaire and checklists were pilot tested and revised before officially being used for data collection.

Results: The main findings showed that the proportions of properly practice of safety intravenous injection among nurses were 62.49%. The proportion of safety intravenous injection reached at the low rate during non-office hours.

Recommendation: Hospital should be provided equip adequate and suitable injection facilities; Continuing to make suitable conditions for nurses to improve their professional qualifications; Supervision at the time of injection to ensure safety injection practices in non-office hours.
