Motivation and some factors affecting motivation of clinical nurses working in traditional medicine institute of Ho Chi Minh City in 2019

Abstract

Objectives: This study has two objectives as follows: To describe the motivations of clinical nursing and determine factors influencing the motivation of clinical nurses in the traditional medicine institute of Ho Chi Minh City in 2019. Methods: This is a cross-sectional descriptive study, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data was conducted via a self-administered questionnaire among 86 clinical nurses. Qualitative data was collected from 10 in-depth interviews and 2 focus groups discussion. Main findings: The average working motivation score of clinical nurses in the traditional medicine Institute Ho Chi Minh city is quite low (3.72/5); The proportion of clinical nurses being motivated is 76.7%. Commitment and dedication for the job have high motivation proportion(86% and 94.2 %). The nurses that satisfy their job have a very low motivated proportion(40.7%). This study found some factors which have a statistically significant association with general motivation are the main income earner in the family and income factor (p<0.05). The negative factors are promotion opportunities and working conditions. Therefore, it’s necessary to provide solutions to help improve working condition as well as organize their job in some faculties so it’s fit their demands and abilities, paying, also create an opportunity for a promotion to improve the working motivation of clinical nurses.
