The full cost of bronchiolitis inpatient treatment at respiratory department in Children’ s Hospital no 1 in 2019
Abstract
Object: Determine full cost of bronchiolitis inpatient treatment at Children’s hospital No 1 in 2019.
Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with 254 cases of bronchiolitis inpatient treatment at Respiratory department in Children‘s hospital No 1 in 2019.
Results: The study results showed that the average cost for one inpatient with bronchiolitis was VND 4,967,049, the average cost for one day was VND 904,090, of which the direct cost accounted for 95.56% (equivalent to VND 863,937 per day), indirect costs accounted for 4.44% (40,153 per day). Regarding direct cost, the average medical cost (hospital fee) for one day of treatment is VND 483,410, of which hospital beds’ cost accounted for the highest proportion (37.5%), followed by complementary test’s costs (18.5%) and cost for drugs (16.6%). Other direct costs were VND 380,527 per day, of which cost of human resources accounted for the majority. The medical direct cost or hospital free - the amount of hospital revenues obtained from inpatient treatment for child with bronchiolitis was only 53.5% of the total cost incurred by the hospital (with eight cost components included).
Conclusion: Average total cost for an inpatient bronchiolitis treatment at Respiratory Department Children’s hospital No1 is VND 4,967,049. Hospital bed costs account for the highest proportion in hospital fees (37.5%). It is necessary to strengthen the construction and incorporate many solutions to reduce the length of hospital stay, thereby reducing treatment costs.
On average: In one case of inpatient treatment of bronchitis, the current hospital fee is equal to 53.5%, the total expenditure if all 8 components of cost are calculated. Next time, when the Hospital is fully financially autonomous, the medical service price structure should be calculated fully 8 components.
