TEACHING CREATIVE WRITING IN ENGLISH BY USING PICTURE POEMS

Abstract

Our research aims at presenting the use of picture poems to teach creative writing in English. To achieve the research aim, action research was employed to design and collect data. The subjects applied to teach picture poem writing were 93 students, studying in different courses (level A2, B1, B2). The results showed that approximately 61% of students with A2 level, 65% of students with B1 level and 69% of students with B2 level produced their creative writings in various types including pictures of houses, people, trees, and so on. This result proves that it is possible to use picture poems to teach creative writing for students of different levels. We hope that this activity will be applied in other similar contexts to encourage students’ creativity in writing.
