The impact of population and population group working on economic growth in Vietnam

Abstract

    This paper empirically studies the effect of demographics on economic growth for Vietnam through the National Transfer Accounts (NTA) and growth accounting method. Empirical results show that, the population group actually contribute to economic growth in Vietnam only the population at aged 22-53, not all of population at working age or any other age group. Population change contributed 1.2 percent to Vietnam 50 economic growth during the period from 1989 to 1999 and 1.58 percent in the period from 1999 to 2009. This positive impact smaller and after the year 2019, this impact on economic growth is negative. Then, economic growth totally depends on labor productivity.
