Asset- Liability Management in international commercial banks- Lessons for Vietnam commercial Banks

Abstract

ALM is a prominent and crucial operation to ensure the safe and efficiency of commercial banks. The

international financial institution (as BIS) or the credit rating agency for banks (S&P, Moody's or Fitch...)

have quoted that the capability and efficiency of banks are important criterias to assess or advise on the

banks’management. Recent financial crisises warn that commercial banks should focus more on ALM in their

operation (in 2010, 114 banks that declared bankruptcy in US were reported to have poor ALM). Therefore,

it is an urgent task to do research to build up a theoretical background and practical experience on ALM

of commercial banks in all economic conditions. The paper will focus on ALM in international commercial

banks and raises some lessons to Vietnam commercial banks.
