The factors affecting the decision to choose a university for high school students

Abstract

The study aims to identify and measure the main factors affecting the decision to choose a university for high school students. The primary data was collected through a questionnaire survey for first-year students and high school students in Hanoi city and some High schools for the gifted in the provinces such as Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Lao Cai, Yen Bai… The research model consists of independent variables belonging to three key groups of factors: (i) factors belonging to learners including standpoints about university study, choices schools, and career choices; (ii) factors belonging
to environment include advice from others; (iii) factors belonging to universities including tuition fees, study programs, facilities, universities’ reputation, job opportunities, extracurricular activities and alumni network. Research results show that students’ consideration of the universities’ facilities, study environment, universities’ reputation, advice from others, tuition fees, and activities in the educational institution directly impact their decisions to choose a university/college.
