Abstract

The study applies Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) and LVI-IPCC to assess the level of livelihood vulnerability of households in Binh Ngoc commune under the impacts of climate change. The LVI includes 7 main factors: household characteristics, livelihood strategies, social networks, health, water resources, food and finance, natural hazards, and climate change. Based on the average value of these key factors, the LVI-IPCC index is made up of three factors: exposure, adaptability, and vulnerability. Calculation results in Binh Ngoc commune show that the LVI and LVI-IPCC indexes have values of 0,278 and 0,016 respectively. This reflects that livelihood vulnerability is not too high, and vulnerability to climate change impacts is moderate. However, the local exposure to climate change impacts is relatively high with a value of 0,476. Besides, people's adaptability is also relatively good with a value of 0,345 and vulnerability is also moderate with a value of 0,126.
