Factors Affecting Student Learning Outcomes: Evidence from Banking University Ho Chi Minh City

Abstract

The reputation of a university depends greatly on the capacity of its students. Therefore, learning outcomes (partially reflecting competency measures) is one of the top concerns of most university students, as well as support staff, lecturers and university administrators. The objective of this study is to determine which factors affect the students' achievement of the Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City (BUH). Using primary data through 5-level Likert questionnaire survey for 380 students and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) method, the research results show that such factors as: students' ability to self-study, scholarships, future expectations and the level of interaction with lecturers have a positive impact on the learning outcomes of BUH students. However, the study provides no evidence for a relationship between learning motivation and facilities for students' learning outcomes. With the research results found, several recommendations to improve the learning outcomes of BUH students have been proposed
