THE MAIN CAUSES OF THE DECREASE OF WIND-SHIELD AND SAND-SHIELD PROTECTION FOREST AREA IN THE COASTAL LAND OF THANH HOA PROVINCE

Abstract

The process of urbanization, exploitation, and the conversion of the coastal land purposes for socio-economic development in the recent years has been seriously decreasing the coastal forest resources, especially those preventing wind and sand intruding from the sea to the mainland. Like many developing regions in the whole contry, the coastal land of Thanh Hoa province is a typical example of the decline of protection forest due to the expanding land area for agricultural development, construction of residential areas, developing tourist areas and services, and other non-forestry land use purposes. This study focuses on the main causes of the decrease of wind-shiel and sand-shiel protection forest in the coastal area of Thanh Hoa province in order to provide general information about the status of the coastal protection forest in Thanh Hoa Province. The results are also scientific information for making suggestions and proposing solutions to improve the efficiency of coastal land use, and contribute to the protection and development of the coastal protection forest area.
