Abstract

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has significantly altered the regional geopolitical landscape. On March 31, 2024, Russia adjusted its foreign policy to prioritize cooperation with traditional partners, including China and Central Asian countries. Meanwhile, China continues to consolidate its influence through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Global Security Initiative (GSI). In Central Asia, the “undercurrent” of competition between Russia and China in the economic, energy, infrastructure, and security sectors has become increasingly evident. This article analyzes the dynamics of strategic competition between Russia and China in Central Asia within the current geopolitical context.
