A RESEARCH ON MARITIME CONNECTIVITY OF HAI PHONG SEAPORT, AN APPLICATION OF SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS

Abstract

The competitiveness of a seaport depends not only on its integration with the global supply chain, but also on its ability to connect with seaports in the world. Hai Phong seaport is the second largest seaport in Vietnam, an international gateway port of the North region and the whole country. Therefore, this study is conducted to assess the maritime connectivity of Hai Phong seaport, applying the method of analyzing social network analysis to evaluate maritime connectivity of Hai Phong seaport and thereby improving the competitiveness of Hai Phong seaport. Research results show that Hong Kong port is the most important intermediate port in the network connecting with Hai Phong seaport. Currently, to transport goods to these continents, Hai Phong port must connect with transshipment ports such as Hong Kong port, Singapore port and Klang port.
