Abstract

Boundary shear stress in a side-channel

The frictional force of flow in channels always acts in the opposite direction to the flow direction. The magnitude of the frictional force is obtained by multiplying the boundary shear stress by the contact area of channel. The flow in a side-channel has a very complex structure, which is a spatially varied flow with a three-dimensional vortex. Therefore, the energy loss in the side-channel varies greatly, which makes the boundary shear stress distribution also very complicated. By theoretical method and experimental data, this article presents the results of the boundary shear stress distribution along the expanding side-channel with rectangular cross-section
