Abstract

Wind power is one of the clean energy studied to replace fossil fuels. With abundant wind energy, Tra Vinh is investing heavily in wind power systems. Up to now, a total of 5 wind power projects across the province have been completed and put into operation. Wind power projects after being built will have an influence on the hydrodynamic regime and coastal erosion, the main factors affected are the coastal current regime, wave field and coastal morphology. This paper uses the Mike 21/3 Coupled Model FM model to simulate the wave and flow regimes in the coastal area of Tra Vinh after the built shore protection works and wind power pylons. The results show that the flow field behind the wind power projects has changes in the direction and magnitude of the flow, specifically, the flow velocity when passing through the wind power pylon system increases in value by about 7.5%, The seasonal flow direction at the location near the wind power pole has a slight change. Wave mode approaching the beach tends to decrease behind wind power pylons. In the northeast monsoon season, wave height decreases more than in the southwest season. The average wave height decreased by approximately 20%.
