Abstract

In recent years, the old dykes, dams, and channel systems have deteriorated. A challenge for all irrigation facilities is the annual inspection, repair, and upgrading of dykes, dams, and reservoirs. The using divers and equipment to perform underwater missions is laborious and dangerous for the staff. The finance is limited, so the maintenance of the project is slow. Therefore, in the current situation, the need to use devices to help with water activities is huge. The use of a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) at irrigation works can provide an efficient alternative to performing inspection or maintenance as well as repair. Nowadays, some of these tasks can be easily done without divers, with ROV, sonar sensor for 3D images, video camera and other sensors remotely controlled for more safety, compared with performing similar missions with divers. This is a relatively new field in Vietnam with many meanings for the projects of dikes, dams and reservoirs. Therefore, the article will mention the ROV application solution for the survey and assessment of the quality of dams and lakes.
