ASSESSMENT OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT CAPACITY IN TRADITIONAL FESTIVALS IN DA NANG CITY

Abstract

Traditional festivals, which are cultural and spiritual values preserved over many generations, are extremely important cultural resources that need to be preserved and promoted. Da Nang city has many festivals still being maintained, however, the scope of organization is mainly local. Exploiting these festivals for tourism development is necessary, both to perform conservation work and to promote the cultural identity of the locality. However, each festival has different characteristics and nature, so a comprehensive evaluation is needed to see the potential for tourism development at these festivals. Using methods such as multi-criteria analysis, hierarchical process analysis, and expert method, the article has synthesized and developed a system of evaluation criteria, organizing the assessment of the potential for tourism development at some typical festivals. The results show that the potential for tourism exploitation at Quan The Am festival is very favorable, the Cau Ngu festival is favorable, the Hai Chau village festival is moderately favorable, the Tuy Loan village festival and the Buffalo Fighting festival are less favorable, and the Hoa My and Thac Gian village festivals are not favorable. The article also makes some recommendations for the organization of tourism at traditional festivals.
