APPROACHING THE TEXT OF SHORT PROSE AND ESSAY IN LITERATURE TEXTBOOK FOR 7 GRADE FROM A PERSPECTIVE OF GENRE

Abstract

"Short prose" and "Essay" are two genres which are chosen for direct teaching in all three current Literature textbooks for 7 Grade. There are new text corpus, philological knowledge which are still quite simple, inconsistent... They are many difficulties for teachers and pupils to approach. So how can teachers and pupils approach literary works according to genre characteristics? This issue is clarified through the content of our article. Using qualitative research methods, this study focuses on describing the status of design and approaches to literary and essay texts in current Literature textbooks for 7 Grade. And then, we will establish a theoretical basis (based on the achievements of modern Vietnamese literary theory) to distinguish the characteristic boundaries of the two genres of prose and essay, and we will provide directions for approaching these genres with the text of short prose and essay from the perspective of genre characteristics. The research results of our article will help teachers and learners correctly understand the nature of the genre as well as how to approach the texts of these two genres.
