Abstract

This article focuses on understanding the attitudes and perceptions of Da Nang residents regarding the impacts of tourism development on the economy, culture, society, and the environment. To collect data, we designed a survey based on previous research and gathered information through both online and in-person methods. Using a quantitative research approach, a research model was proposed to illustrate the causal relationships between tourism development and residents' attitudes through six intermediary variables related to the positive and negative aspects of the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental dimensions. The results indicate that Da Nang residents recognize that while tourism development brings many benefits and values to the city and to themselves, it also generates negative impacts on all three dimensions: the economy, socio-cultural aspects, and the environment. However, the negative environmental impact of tourism is not yet a focus of residents' attention or full awareness. This study not only contributes to clarifying the theoretical understanding of this topic but also provides valuable insights for policymakers and tourism management in Da Nang.
