Abstract

Developing teaching materials has long been an issue that has attracted the attention of many educational institutions, scholars, researchers, and teachers. The construction of a system of specific teaching materials, which suits the objective conditions of the institution using the materials and specific learners, is always considered as one of the most decisive criteria for teaching. Therefore, surveying learners' needs is a necessary step to ensure that the "student-centered" perspective is not only reflected in teaching methods, but also in the textbooks. This quantitative study aimed at surveying the needs of students of key English classes at School of Foreign Languages - Thai Nguyen University about the curriculum of Translating - Interpreting modules through a questionnaire and interview. The results show that the students’ necessities and wants are considered as the background for the authors in the construction of teaching materials for 2 modules of Advanced English Translation and Advanced English Interpreting at the School of Foreign Languages - Thai Nguyen University.
