APPLICATION PALLIATIVE PROGNOSTIC INDEX IN PROGNOSTIC OF ADVANCED CANCER PATIENTS AT THAI NGUYEN ONCOLOGY CENTER
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the correlation of PPI score in prognosis of advanced cancer patients at Thai Nguyen Oncology Center. Using cross-sectional description method, 46 advanced cancer patients were received palliative care from March 2022 to March 2023. The tool used is the Palliative Prognostic Index-PPI with 5 variables (Palliative Performance Scale, Oral intake, Edema, resting dyspnea and Delirium). The results showed that the average PPI score was 4.43 ± 2.45 (range 0 - 11). The association analysis was not significant in the group of patients with PPI score ≥ 4 and < 4 in age group, gender and location of cancer. However, there were significant differences in the group of patients using 3rd-line analgesics, distant metastasis, comorbidities and nutritional deficiencies. Thus, the PPI score was associated with severe disease in advanced cancer patients.
