Abstract

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at Thai Nguyen National Hospital in 2021 on 96 thalassemia patients. This study aim to determined the associaton between some disease characteristics and blood coagulation test results of thalassemia patients. The study results showed  the average platelets was 408,31 ± 244,50 (103/ml); average prothrombin time 15.15 ± 1.55 (seconds); average activated partial thromboplastin time 38.70 ± 6.86 (seconds) and fibrinogen was 2.70 ± 0.73 (g/l). There were associations between thrombosis, direct Coombs test (+) and spleen status with platelet (p<0.05). There were associatons between spleen and liver status and prothrombin time (p<0.05). There were associatons between direct Coombs test (+), spleen status and liver status with prothrombin time ratio (%) (p<0.05). There were associations between liver status and activated partial thromboplastin time, activated partial thromboplastin time ratio (p<0.05) and fibrinogen (p<0.05). The study has found associations between spleen and liver status of thalassemia patients and blood coagulation test results.
