RESULTS OF BREEDING AND TESTING QT565 WAXY CORN VARIETY IN QUANG NGAI PROVINCE

Abstract

QT565 - waxy maize hybrid was developed between 2 maize inbred lines (N7B x N15), of tropical origin, through the assessment of general combining ability in the 2017 Autumn-Winter crop, evaluating the hybrid combination in the 2019 Summer-Autumn crop and a narrow field trial in the 2020 Summer-Autumn crop in Quang Ngai province. The promising hybrid QT565 with short growing duration (97 days in Winter-Spring crop  and 75 days in Summer-Autumn crop), short fresh ear harvest time (80 days in Winter-Spring crop and 62 days in Summer-Autumn); the average fresh ear yield was 124.3 quintals/ha, higher than the control variety MX6 25.6%; eating quality of fresh ear equivalent to MX6; stem borer (score 1 - 2), corn borer (score 1 - 2), little powdery mildew infection (point 1 - 2), large leaf blight disease (point 1 - 2), stem rot (point 1), equivalent to MX6.
