Abstract

Climate change is one of the biggest threats to human. The main cause of climate change is the increase in greenhouse gas emissions into the earth's atmosphere, especially CO2 emissions. Soil is a large pool of organic carbon of continental ecosystems. The purpose of the study is to estimate the amount of carbon stored in the topsoil of the Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province. The distance inverse interpolation method (IDW) was applied to estimate the soil organic matter distribution from the soil sample point data of the region. The study results show that the amount of the soil organic carbon (SOC) in the topsoil of the Ea Sup district is about 5,952,556.93 tons of SOC, approximately equivalent to 21,845,883.92 tons of CO2. If calculated at the price of 5$/ton of CO2, the total economic value is estimated at 2.83 billion USD; at a price of $ 10/ton of CO2, the total economic value is estimated at $ 5.67 billion; at a price of $30 /ton of CO2, the total economic value is estimated at $ 17.03 billion. This estimate provides proposed solutions to improve soil quanlity as well as mitigate change impact in Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province.
