Abstract

Water sources polluted by ammonium negatively affect human health and the ecosystem, so the removal of this compound is essential. This paper focused on the ability of clinoptilolite modified by NaCl and ultrasonic waves (SNa-CL) in treating ammonium. The effect of factors such as pH, initial ammonium concentration and contact time on removal efficiency have been studied in detail. The results showed that the treatment reached the highest efficiency at pH=6 and after 90 minutes. The first, second-order and Elovich kinetic models were used to analyze the experimental data and it was found that the kinetics of the adsorption process was most suitable for the second-order kinetic. The adsorption isotherm was investigated using the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin models. Experimental data were consistent with the Langmuir and Temkin models. The maximum adsorption capacity calculated according to the Langmuir model was 24.42 mg/g.
