Abstract

Study on the phytochemical estimation of the ethanolic extract from the aerial parts W. x “Bristol ruby” confirmed the presence of flavonoid, tannin, terpenoid and triterpenoid saponin, whereas alkaloid, steroid and cardiac glycoside were found to be absent. Total saponin content was resulted as 4.28%. The elucidation of saponin was obtained by various chromatographic methods. The structure of this saponin was established by 1D and 2D NMR data, combined with mass spectroscopy (ESI-MS) which further identified as Loniceroside’s discussion about the biological activities of Loniceroside A was also reported due to the data in literature which could be used to evaluate other biological activities on this compound. It could be concluded that this is the first report of phytochemical composition and total saponin analysis carried out on the aerial parts of W. x “Bristol ruby”.
