EFFECT OF MUSIC THERAPY IN REDUCING PREOPERATIVE ANXIETY AMONG PATIENTS UNDERGOING ELECTIVE ABDOMINAL SURGERY IN THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of music therapy in reducing preoperative anxiety among patients undergoing abdominal surgery in Thai Nguyen National Hospital. The quasi-expereimental study design was applied for this study; Convinience sampling technique was used to recruit 82 participants for intervention group and control group in this study.

The results of this study indicated that all of participants have reported preoperative anxiety Music therapy was effect in reducing preoperative anxiety: After intervention, there was no significant in mean score of preoperative anxiety in control groupwhile in intervention group the high level of preoperative anxiety reduced from 14.6% o 7.3%. In post intervention period the mean score of preoperative anxiety in control and intervention groups were 51.7 ± 7.2 và 47.3 ± 6.9 (p < 0.05) respectively.
