SELF EFFICACY IN THE CLINICAL SKILLS PRACTICE OF FULL-TIME STUDENTS AT THAI NGUYEN NATIONAL HOSPITAL 2019

Abstract

This paper present a study to assess self-efficacy in the clinical skills practice of full-time nursing students at Thai Nguyen National Hospital and to identify some factors related to self-efficacy in clinical skills practice by full-time nursing students. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. Data are collected by the self - efficacy questionnaire in clinical practice. A total 120 full-time Nursing students attending in Semester VI and Semester VII completed the questionnaire to assess self - efficacy in clinical skills practicce. The study results showed that, the average score for self - efficacy is 7.29 ± 1.24 (1 - 10), which shows moderate self - efficacy in students. 103 students (85.8%) had confidence in the average while the rest were 17 (14.2%) with high self - efficacy level. Self - efficacy in clinical skills practicce was statistically related to the semester of students (p <0.05). Of the 30 nursing skills studied, the students had the highest self - efficacy in practicing survival sign measurement techniques (75.8%), preparing and performing intravenous infusion (58.3%), injecting medicine for patients (52.5%). The lowest self - efficacy was the cardiopulmonary resuscitation technique (14.2%), care for dying patients, death (14.2%) and auxiliary techniques for end of life care, insertion and care for Catheter patients (15.8%).
