Analysis of the impact of inclement weather on construction project schedule in Ho Chi Minh City

Abstract

Typically, the schedule of construction projects is seriously affected by objective factors. Of these factors, weather prevails because of its unpredictability and irregularity. Many studies have investigated, analyzed, and modeled this level of influence. However, each study's results seem applicable only in one locality rather than representative elsewhere. In Vietnam, in general, and
in Ho Chi Minh City, the weather characteristics also have different features. This study collected historical data on the weather combined with interviews with experts to determine the
impact of bad weather by month and season of the year. Research results show that hot sun and heavy rain greatly influence construction progress. In addition, this study also proposes some
solutions to limit or improve the implementation of progress when facing high heat in the dry season and heavy rain in the rainy season.
