Conservation of architectural and urban heritage in the development of Hai Phong urban center: consider heritage as an asset to establish a conservation strategy

Abstract

Hai Phong urban area - whose central core is the "French Quarter" has become the second largest city of the North of Vietnam with the combination of two economic functions: a seaport and the national defense. The valuable elements of the Hai Phong urban center have been integrated into the overall value, therefore, urban and architectural conservation must be recognized and evaluated in an integrated manner according to the integration of economic values of urban and architectural heritage. The article proposes to consider the strategy of preserving and promoting the value of architectural and urban heritage during the French colonial period in Hai Phong from the perspective of heritage economy, considering heritage as an asset, clarifying the constitutive values. economic value of architectural and urban heritage of the French colonial period.

With a vision of a new urban center worthy of Hai Phong in the 21st century - a seaport, an industrial and commercial hub reaching regional and international standards in the 21st century, the article proposes 5 sets of solutions to conserve and promote values of Hai Phong central urban area.
