Abstract

Coupled shear wall (CSW) is a structure consisting of two vertical walls connected by horizontal lintels or beams. According to seismic standards, the double wall has a higher coefficient of behavior than a normal wall structure, which means that in terms of response to the dynamic action of a double wall, it is better than the normal shear wall. This feature of double-walled structure has been used in the design of high-rise buildings, especially the design of high-rise buildings subjected to earthquakes. The bearing capacity of a double wall, including strength, stiffness as well as ductility, depends on the bearing capacity of the coupling beams. The coupling beam with diagonal reinforcements has been proposed by Paulay and proven to be effective for the performance of double wall structures compared to the wall’s structure with conventional reinforced beams. This paper will study the calculation of the double shear wall structure with the elastic-plastic working of the diagonal reinforced coupling beams. The results form the basis for the calculation and design of this structure.
