Multi-stage axial compression system and experience compressing bamboo

Abstract

The axial compression test is one of the basic tests to evaluate the load carrying capacity of a material or structural member. In this study, a flexible multistage axial compression system allows compression of many samples with different length ranges. Along with that, a system of loading, automatic data reading, and real-time display of measurement data is also designed for the experimental system. Three experiments on bamboo samples to quickly evaluate the experimental system were performed, showing the applicability of the experimental system. The design and operation of the experimental system helps researchers master the technology, avoiding limitations when using a synchronous system from the manufacturer.
