Abstract

Refractory bricks used for cement clinker kiln lining mainly have a high thermal conductivity from 2.6 ÷ 3.0 W/m.K, resulting in an increased heat transfer through the kiln’s shell and considerable heat loss, damaging to the kiln’s shell, auxiliary mechanical equipments and reducing the furnace working life. Therefore, the refractory brick system with a lower thermal conductivity to reduce the heat loss, energy consumption and temperature of the cement kiln’s shell, as well as to reduce the kiln’s load on mechanical equipments needs to be studied. This paper presents some research results on the effects of the material selection, superfined phase, forming pressure, firing temperature, and additives on the ability to manufacture the high-conductivity multi layered mulite-silicon refractory bricks with low thermal conductivities (≤1.8 W/m.K), high cold compressive strength (≥ 90.0 MPa), high abrasion resistance (≤ 2.5 cm3), low apparent porosity (≤ 19.0 %) for linning of clinker rotary kilns.
