Abstract

Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have revolutionized the construction industry, creating a demand for data products from existing constructions, heritage sites, and museums. However, many old buildings lack sufficient information and drawings, which causes difficulties in management. The conventional management process relies on drawings that are unsynchronized, unreliable, and face monitoring challenges in the future. Surprisingly, management activities account for about 60% of the total project lifecycle cost, but are often overlooked. To support effective building management and reduce costs, this study proposes an optimized management process by using the digital model of Building B6 – Faculty of Civil Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT) – Vietnam National University. First, current operation management processes will be presented before proposing operation and asset management processes. After that, the conclusion and future research directions will be presented.
