Abstract
Riverbank landslide is complicated and especially serious in the Mekong Delta. The paper presents the evaluation results based on the field survey and the stability analysis model of riverbank by the Finite Element Method (FEM) for the real and hypothetical cases at four cross-sections of the riverbank (MC1, MC2, MC3, MC4). The results show that Ong Chuong River is prone to landslides and vehicle load is one of the main causes of this situation, from MC1 to MC3 the factor of safety is relatively low, especially for the case of the lowest water level (the factor of safety, FS = 0,84 - 0,94). This result is consistent with the field survey results. At MC2, FS is still ensured in cases of the designed vehicle load (FS = 1.26 - 1.15); however, if the vehicle overload is assumed (from 1 ,5 to 2.0 times the designed vehicle load), MC2 will no longer ensure safety (FS = 1.09 - 1.05). Particularly for MC4, the safety factor is high and ensures safety in all the calculation cases.
