The caculation of country-specific emission factors for cement production in Vietnam
Abstract
The 2022 Construction Industry Greenhouse Gas Inventory estimates total emissions to exceed 110 million tons of CO2 equivalent (CO2eq), of which cement production responsible for 80% of these emissions. The inventory results calculated according to the IPCC's default emission factors. This study esestimates the greenhouse gas emission factor for cement production in Vietnam. Analisis and calculation data were employing the IPCC's international methodology. Data were collected, analyzed, and calculated from 71 production lines of 48 cement factories nationwide. The results show that the emission factor of cement production in Vietnam is 718 kg CO2eq per ton of cement and 897 kg CO2eq per ton of clinker. The primary source of emissions comes from the decomposition of carbonate components in raw materials, which accounts for more than 60%, corresponding to 410 kg CO2eq per ton of cement and 532 kg CO2eq per ton of clinker. After raw materials, emissions from fuel account for 30% and, indirect emissions from electricity account for 10%.
