NÂNG CAO NĂNG LỰC ĐỌC HIỂU CHO SINH VIÊN HỆ KHÔNG CHUYÊN TRƯỜNG ĐẠI HỌC TÀI NGUYÊN VÀ MÔI TRƯỜNG HÀ NỘI
We all know that learning English is not just about learning a language, but also using that language to
learn about different countries, people and cultures around the world. Therefore, in order to use a language
fluently, learners have to master four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In which, reading skill
plays a decisive role and cannot be separated from the other three skills. Reading comprehension is one of the
purposes of learning English and is a very important skill that students have to master. Reading comprehension
is the process of finding general information from a text; searching for specific information from a text; or just
reading for fun. In addition, reading comprehension is also a process by which the reader combines information
from a text with his or her background knowledge to make sense of the subject matter. Thus, it can be said
that reading comprehension is the process by which the reader uses his background knowledge to decipher
information from a text in order to understand the subject matter in that text. This article presents the current
situation of students’ reading comprehension and some measures to improve English reading comprehension
for non-major students at Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment.
