WTO rules on fisheries subsidies - latest issues in amendment negotiations and recommendations for Vietnam

Abstract

The fishery market has been expanded from the national, regional to the global scale and, as the largest multilateral trading organization in the world, the WTO has been creating a legal framework for trading in fishery products among countries or groups of members, supervises its members’ trade policies to control trade in fishery products, and especially pays a significant attention to fisheries subsidies. From the practical application of WTO law on fisheries subsidies and the negotiation progress, the paper provides some recommendations for Vietnam as participating in the negotiation of fisheries subsidies in the shoes of a WTO member.
