Strengthening the effeciency of the human rights treaty body system

Abstract

This article provides an overall assessment of the current process of strengthening the human rights treaty body system in the light of the implementation of the UN General Assembly Resolution 68/268 to answer the question: “Do we need to follow the path of smooth fine-tuning as established in Resolution, or do we need to expect a “reform” with substantial structural changes in the system’s structure?”. While arguing for the first option, the author concludes that there is a need for a proper assessment of the current state of affairs in all segments of the system with due regard being given to the views of all stakeholders before reaching any decision concerning further changes to be introduced in its work.
