Compensation for damages caused by harm to personal honour, reputation or dignity under some feudal law codes of Vietnam

Abstract

In the current era of stormily economic and technological development, it is likely that personal honour, reputation or dignity can be negatively affected, causing many unpredictable consequences. This requires the legal system to be improved to protect personal honour, reputation or dignity with the direction of meeting modern trends and ideas as well as inheriting and promoting good traditional values. The paper examines the Vietnamese legal tradition based on some typical feudal law codes of Vietnam to identify and inherit advances in the law-making history regarding protection of personal honour, reputation or dignity for preserving social order and morality. It also offers some proposals for improving the law on compensation for damages caused by harm to personal honour, reputaion or dignity.
